OBITUARY:   Donald Whitaker

EDMUND, Okla. - Doctor Donald Whitaker, 75, was called to his heavenly home on Friday, August 10, 2007, in Oklahoma City, Okla. He died of natural causes.

 

He was born March 16, 1932, in Oklahoma City, Okla. Don graduated from Deer Creek High School, served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Shield during the Korean War and graduated from Kansas State Medical School.

 

Dr. Whitaker had a very successful medical and surgical practice in the Midwest for many years.

 

He practiced medicine first in Crescent and Broken Bow, Okla., then in Longview and Dallas, Texas, finally in California, and at his clinic in Jefferson, Texas.

 

He taught Microbiology to nursing students at Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Texas, and also worked as a Health Physicist in the Nuclear Physics Department in Ft. Worth, Texas.

 

Dr. Whitaker was a pioneer in nutritional medicine and developed his own line of vitamins and nutritional supplements.

Dr. Whitaker's medical philosophy and emphasis expanded from the treatment of illnesses to embrace the comprehensive prevention and treatment of disease.

The former clinic in Jefferson, Texas was a result of Dr. Whitaker's 35 years of clinical practice, his extensive medical and nutritional research, and in-depth biblical studies on the topics of medicine and nutrition.

Dr. Whitaker conducted health seminars, ministered internationally, and had interviewed some of the world's top scientists and medical researchers on his long-running weekly television program.

He was affiliated with Trinity Broadcasting (TBN), where he hosted "Calling Doctor Whitaker".
He also ministered the Word of God all over the world for more than 30 years.

 

Don was preceded in death by his son, Eric Whitaker; uncle and aunt, Harry and Bessie Drake; and grandmother, Ellen Vanderford, who reared him.

 

He is survived by his son, Troy Lee Whitaker and wife, Annamaria of Los Angeles, Calif.; daughter, Cindy Owen and husband, Russell of Portland, Ore.; grandsons, Ethan and Connor Owen of Portland, Ore.; sister, Ila Jean Bunce of Piedmont, Okla.; and four nieces.

 

A formal visitation was held on August 13, 2007.

 

Services for Don were held on August 14, 2007, at Baggerley Funeral Home.
Interment followed in Kansas Cemetery of Piedmont, Okla.

 

Don will be missed not only by family, but by patients and by many of faith throughout the world.
